I don’t always wake up feeling all this juicy joy. Do you? I can choose to let joy hover around my head, ready to infuse my day, just waiting for me to reach up and grab it. Or I can just…grab it!
Quick. Three easy meditations to grab your joy today. Pick one and spend 5 minutes…
Joy in the cup.
This one is easy. You get to do something you are probably already doing: Hold your coffee cup (or tea if you must~). The difference is, walk away from any computer or work station and sit somewhere comfy. Hold the cup. Enjoy the way it feels to sit and do ‘nothing’. Think about how great the liquid is inside. Does it smell and taste good to you? Did you make a good find in purchasing this particular coffee or tea? Does it bring back good memories? What about the cup? How does it feel in your hand? Who gave it to you (or in my case, made it for you?) Why do you like it? Smile. If you simply just can’t – – find a new cup/coffee/memory/taste/smell and try again tomorrow!
Lesson: please don’t drink gross coffee, it will ruin your joy!
Joy in the cuddle.
It’s hard to squeeze in a cuddle on the run. A partner, a child, a beloved pet is best. A stuffed animal is good in a pinch (don’t have one laying around? Please, you have my permission to go treat yourself and get one. Preferably one that makes you feel all gooey inside.) Pillows or comforters can be cuddly, too. Easy instructions: Sit. Cuddle. Enjoy. Silent if you can, quiet conversation if required. No planning, no depth, just a cuddle. Smile. If you simply can’t – – find a new time of day/stuffed animal/blanket/place to sit (you can’t just go find a new partner/child/beloved pet for this exercise) and try again tomorrow!
Lesson: don’t try and grab your kids as they run terrified for the door, it will ruin their joy!
Joy in the car.
You have to drive. Do you have to listen to the doom and gloom news? How ‘bout just not for today? I won’t even suggest you put on a song or meditation and try to catch someone else’s joy (unless you really really want to). Let’s get your joy going: do you like your car? Think about choosing it, buying it, enjoying it, and if you’ve already paid the payment this month say thank you to yourself for working hard to pay it [never mind next month, this is today!]. Hate your car? Try the scenery. Hate the scenery? Try the clouds. Clouds are very cool. Smile. If you simply can’t – – find a new car/route with better scenery/or appreciation of the clouds and try again tomorrow!
Lesson: if nothing else, thank your God that you can drive at all! What a joyful thought!
I’ve found my joy today in sharing this with you. Your turn! Tell me how it went.
This cup is awesome!
