Social media….I’m on it often, always and a lot. At times my husband, who is barely a causal social media user, looks at me and rolls his eyes…
I remember being sick in 2008 and joining facebook and twitter that fall. I was the lone facebook ranger in my office…and that spring when I quit a high paying job, connections on facebook netted me 47,000$ in 5 months. They were connections I made exclusively online. I stuck around.
Launching business is different these days….ahh the Online Model. Very different from the real estate lead generation model that I first was exposed to as a solo-preneur. Local networking, calls, more local networking. Social media allowed me to go global- literally.
Today I realize that I have friends and colleagues and clients in almost every US state and in many places around the world. I’ve worked for clients in London, Canada, US and in Dubai and I anticipate that expanding even more.
In my daily world…I realize I am blessed to interact with authors whose books have touched my hearts, I get to learn from teachers and thinkers of all my favorite subjects. I can, with the click of my mouse, share that with my friends and colleagues and clients who would benefit or appreciate it.
I do realize, I certainly contribute to the online noise that is out there. Thank goodness for Twitter and Facebook lists….those tools are invaluable to me– they allow me to focus on one topic at at time. I rarely read an unfiltered feed–Visual Thinkers. Coaching. Woo-woo. My Regulars. Family. Leadership. Speaking. Facilitators. Creatives. Funny Ass Folk.
I’ve even recently tip-toed back in to LinkedIn. (although I’m intimidated by the professionalism there at times– I’m a little more free style professional than blue suit professional). The best value there has been affiliating and following the conversation of groups I’m interested in. I like listening to the conversation. I learn from the conversation and the info shared. LinkedIn…I’m sticking around and may even doodle your logo for my website.
I’m in information heaven. I’m in inspiration heaven. And yes, I live a real life too. I see and speak to plenty of others face to face and in real time. I’m getting better at shutting down, and I still read paperback books and still do some coaching and teaching in person.
The purpose of this post? Who knows? I’m really just rambling in appreciation for the opportunity to connect, to find, and to share in this online world.
So…Ode to Social Media, to online learning and business models, global mentors, teachers and students, to high school friends, and college friends, even to the facebook poke. oh how I LOVE thee!
